Mom, ethics lawyer & community advocate
I am a longtime DC resident and parent to three wonderful children (also known as the Monsters): Adrián (12 years old), Mateo (9 years old), and Javier (7 years old). Adrián, Mateo, and Javi attend a local public charter school.
I've been the Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner for Single Member District 4B02 since 2019. You may also recognize me from my campaign in the June 2022 Democratic Primary to be DC Council Chairwoman. Running a competitive and substantive campaign for DC Council was an incredible learning experience that has shown me just how much our local elected officials can do to serve residents well and equitably.
Professionally, I'm a lawyer, most recently having worked as an ethics enforcement lawyer for the federal Judiciary. Before that, I worked as a litigation associate at Clifford Chance US LLP, often on pro bono matters, including asylum cases before DC-area courts and special education cases involving DC schools. I also taught a human rights clinic at American University Washington College of Law and served as a law clerk at the DC Court of Appeals.
I have served with a number of community organizations, including currently as a Board Member of the Old Takoma Business Association (Main Street Takoma), and previously as Secretary of the Manor Park Citizens Association, a Board Member of the Kennedy Street Development Corporation (a group that worked to establish Uptown Main Street), and a Board Member of the Student Education and Leadership Fund (providing college scholarships to DC-area students dedicated to using their college education to give back to their local communities).
Engaging kids and families, as well as supporting community, means a lot to me, and I love holding events for kids about civic engagement and community service. I also support neighbor-to-neighbor communications to resolve conflicts. When I'm not working or spending time in the community and with family, you can find me testifying before the DC Council at agency oversight hearings and in support of legislation to ensure high-quality, equitable government services for all our neighbors, including housing, healthcare, transportation, education, and more.
I love spending time in Rock Creek Park, hosting yearly neighborhood Halloween parties (Spookyville!), talking politics with family and friends, eating burgers at Simple Bar & Grill or tacos at Taqueria Distrito Federal, and playing at the Takoma pool and library with my kids.
If we haven't already met, I look forward to getting to know you.
